The Consultation

Our vein specialists will discuss your vein problems with you before examining your legs. We would like to know what the problems are whether cosmetic, symptomatic or both. Your past medical history is also important, including any previous vein treatment you may have had.

Physical examination

A physical examination by a doctor is useful in showing the extent of the varicose veins. It is not always clear where varicose veins come from, so ultrasound imaging is needed to find the source. This is particularly important when varicose veins have recurred after a previous operation. Even experienced vascular surgeons find it difficult to decide exactly where the problem lies without the use of special tests.

The consultant will undertake a colour duplex ultrasound scan and discuss the result during the consultation.
